A Practical Approach to Modern Spirituality

Book Title & Author – A Handbook of Spiritual Medicine 

Dive into the profound world of spiritual reformation with our course based on Ibn Daud’s modern handbook which draws from classical sources and great scholars like Imam Ghazali. This course offers a comprehensive examination of the signs, symptoms, and treatments for various spiritual diseases. Through lectures, class discussions, and case studies, participants will learn how to apply the Quranic and Prophetic wisdom regarding self reformation to everyday life.

Quran: Tafsir of 30th Juz

This course provides a study of the 30th Juz (part) of the Quran, focusing on its Tafsir (exegesis) to uncover deeper meanings and interpretations and to help appreciate the linguistic beauty of the Quran. Participants will explore powerful themes such as resurrection, the last day, Heaven and Hell and the Majesty of Allah swt. This class will build Iman and appreciation of the depth of the Quran while focusing on those Surahs that are often recited in prayer. Various Tafasir will be referenced to help provide learners with a more holistic understanding of the verses.

Arabic: Level 2

Arabic Level 2 is a continuation of Arabic Level 1, designed to build on foundational knowledge. Students will delve into intermediate-level grammar and morphology, expanding their understanding of the language.

Please note that Arabic Level 2 is a fast paced class for new students. We encourage that new students be able to read basic Arabic.

Meet your Instructors

Shaykh Dr Omar Hussaini

Shaykh Dr Omar Hussaini, born in 1978 in Park Ridge, IL, completed the memorization of the Qur’an at Ma’had Ta’lim ul-Islam in 1996. After graduating from the College Preparatory School of America in 1998, he joined the University of Illinois at Chicago’s GPPA Program in medicine. He pursued studies in Arabic language and classical Islamic sciences concurrently with his high school and college education. In 2006, Shaykh Omar received degrees in Shari’ah studies and Medicine, having completed his final year of the Shari’ah course at Darul Uloom Zakariyya in South Africa under luminaries such as Mufti Radha ul-Haq. He completed medical residency and fellowships at Washington University in St. Louis from 2007 to 2013 and obtained formal authorization in the Islamic science of spiritual purification. Currently, he serves as a staff physician at the Moffitt Cancer Center and is an Assistant Professor of Oncological Sciences at the University of South Florida.

Ustadh Abdullah Mulla

Ustadh Abdullah Mulla was born and raised in Tampa and graduated from Tampa Bay Technical High School in 2022. His quest for knowledge led him to DarusSalam Seminary in Chicago, where he completed the rigorous Tanwir Intensive. There, he dove into a comprehensive curriculum that encompassed various fields of sacred knowledge, including Tazkiyah, Fiqh, Sirah, Aqidah, and Hadith. Back in Tampa, he is now pursuing a bachelor’s in psychology while continuing his studies in Nahw, Fiqh, and Quranic studies under local scholars.

1. Is it possible to enroll in one or two courses?

  • Yes, you can select whatever classes you’d like to attend.

2. Will recordings of the sessions be accessible?

  • No, unfortunately, classes will not be recorded.

3. Will there be assessments on the course material?

  • There will be some quizzes and tests for Arabic only

4. Will a Zoom option be available if we cannot attend?

  • We can accommodate someone on a need-by-need basis. These classes, however, will not be offered on Zoom.

5. What if I cannot pay the tuition?

  • If you are unable to pay the fee, please do not hesitate to register. Kindly select the option indicating that you cannot pay, and your tuition will be waived accordingly.
